What do you want actors to know?

We’re excited to see you and we’re rooting for you. So many times, I see actors walk into the room already feeling defeated, like the odds are stacked against them. But it’s important to remember: you’re there for a reason. Your time, your talent, and your presence is wanted in that space.

What should actors know about you when you are casting a show?

When you come into a room that I’m in, you’re not just being seen for the role you’re auditioning for — you’re being seen as an artist. The work you bring into the room can spark something much bigger. Yes, I’m focused on the work at hand, but the moment you start performing — whether you’re singing, reading, or dancing — my mind begins to race. I’m imagining other roles, other projects, other possibilities.

That’s the kind of impact a strong performance can have — and to me, that is very exciting.

What stands out to you the most when an actor is in the room?

When someone comes in consistently prepared, does great work, and leads with kindness, they become an artist that we can trust. That kind of trust between a performer and a casting team is powerful — because it means we can bring you in knowing one of two things will happen:
1) You’ll perform at the level we know you can and absolutely shine, or
2) You’ll surprise us — in the best way — and bring a fresh perspective that inspires and energizes something new behind the table.

Every artist is different, but it’s this consistency that builds the foundation for a genuine, mutual trust throughout one’s career.

What is your honest take on headshots these days and what helps them work and what doesn’t?

People overthink them so much. Being yourself and focusing on you — as opposed to “let me be this” or something else: it will always be a game of trying to satisfy something else and that’s an impossible. So the most important and most consistent one is your opinion so stick with that. People can have their input, but it’s your career it’s your life; it’s your headshot. As long as you’re happy with it, and you’re seeing success with it coupled together. But most importantly feeling really strong and that you’re happy with those headshots. Having belief and confidence that you will be enough as who you are is enough.

What would you say inspires you moving forward in this industry?

Creative voices that are inspired to reach out to people and to learn more, to uplift people in that way.
